On Saturday, January 7th, the Western National Roundup was held at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. with 17 national level 4-H contests and two Florida teams competing.
In meats judging, your reserve state champion team from Suwannee County 4-H made up of Ainsley Peterson, Christian Rodriguez, Sarah Swindell and Garrett Greaves represented Florida in the 4-H Meats Judging Contest. As a team, they placed 4th in placings, 5th in reasons, 4th in retail identification and 4th overall. Individually, Swindell was 8th in placings and Greaves was 10th in placings, and Peterson was the highest scoring individual overall on the team with seven teams and 27 individuals competing. The team was coached by Mr. Brian Estevez.
Congratulations to each of these youth on a spectacular showing in this contest on the national level. Meats judging is an event designed to test evaluation and selection skills of beef, pork, and lamb wholesale cuts and carcasses, along with retail meat identification for youth and defense of placings via written reasons. On January 6th, the Western National Roundup was held at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. with 17 national level 4-H contests with two Florida teams competing.
In livestock judging, your 3rd place state-winning team from Alachua County 4-H made up of Hunter Hayes, Summer Sanders, Cheyenne Donaldson and Cody Donaldson represented Florida in the 4-H Livestock Judging Contest and placed 23rd overall as a team. Individually, Hayes was the highest scoring individual on the team, with 29 teams and 118 individuals competing. The team was coached by Dr. Cynthia Sanders.
Livestock judging is an event designed to test the evaluation and decision making skills of students through evaluating market and breeding beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats as well as the defense of their placings via oral reasons.
