Throughout the year, your state 4-H judging contest champions and national contestants will be featured here in FJC as well as state and national competitions occur! Unbeknownst to many, the Florida 4-H Youth Development Program has a large dairy youth program that is active throughout the state and on the national level as well, traveling to many major dairy conventions and shows across the country all year long.
On September 28th, the annual Lely National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest was held in conjunction with the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. andFlorida was represented with a team of four youth selected based on their involvement in the Florida 4-H Dairy program throughout their youth careers. The judging contest is comprised of placing several classes of different breeds of dairy cattle along with oral reasons, and top individuals are reveled as the best of the best in the youth dairy world. Florida was represented this year by the team of Avery Kotlarczyk of Parrish and Amanda Hidbrader of Bradenton from Manatee County 4-H, and Cady McGehee of Okeechobee and John McGehee of Okechobee from Okeechobee County 4-H coached by Chris Holcomb of UF IFAS. The team placed sixth overall and fifth in oral reasons at the contest with Cady McGehee placing ninth individually in reasons, and Kotlarczyk, Cady McGehee, and Hidbrader all placing in the top twenty five individually. Congrats to all and good luck to the Florida 4-H Dairy Judging Team as they prepare for the next contest at NAILE! More information: www.worlddairyexpo.com/…/News-Release---2015---Wisconsin-Te…
