On November 6th, the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. held its annual NAILE 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging Contest with a Florida 4-H Youth Development Program Florida 4-H Dairy program team competing.
Team members included Cady McGehee from Okeechobee County 4-H, Jozef Heijkoop from Sumter County 4-H and Karen Kotlarczyk from UF IFAS Extension Manatee County 4-H. As a team, they placed as the 1st High Team in Total Holstein, 4th in Total Ayrshire, 2nd in Total Brown Swiss, 2nd in Reasons and as the 6th High Team Overall. Individually, McGehee placed as the 1st High Individual Overall in Reasons, 6th in Total Ayrshire, 2nd in Total Holstein and as 7th High Individual Overall, Heijkoop placed 9th in Total Ayrshire and Kotlarczyk placed 2nd in Total Brown Swiss and 6th in Total Holstein with 20 teams and 75 individuals competing.
Dairy Judging is a contest designed to stimulate youth learning and involvement in the dairy industry alongside dairy projects teaching evaluation, identification, reasoning, and decision making skills.
