On November 17th, the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. held the annual National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference with five different national 4-H poultry related competitions. The Florida 4-H Youth Development Program was represented by nine different youth in three different contests.
In Poultry Judging, the state winning team from @UF IFAS Extension Pasco County 4-H made up of Emily Jennings, Bailey McKendree, Kaylee Cummings and Tierani Johnson represented Florida as a team, and placed 1st in the Market Eggs division and 3rd Overall as a team and received many individual awards. Nathalie Yoder from Jackson County Florida 4-Hand the Jackson County 4-H Livestock Club competed as an individual and placed 11th Overall as an individual.
For Chicken Barbecue, Deanna Brock from Pasco Heritage 4H in Pasco County competed after winning the poultry division at the 2016 State Tailgating Contest earlier this fall and placed 3rd Overall in the contest.
Finally, in Avian Bowl, a team from Jackson County Florida 4-H and Jackson County 4-H Livestock Club made up of Morgan Seele, Anslie Yoder, Emma Caraway and Dalton Godwin competed in the preliminary rounds representing Florida as third place state winners in Poultry Judging from back in the spring replacing Marion County (FL) 4-H as your reserve state champions.
Congratulations to each of these young people on their accomplishments and for continuing Florida's winning streak on the national level! Poultry events stretch beyond teaching if the chicken or the egg came first, teaching youth skills in consumer selection, food safety, public speaking, decision making, time management, and more.
